Empedocles, Plato, Zeno, Euclid and others entertained the possibility that the eye sends out rays so the person can sense what’s in front of them. Apparently Plato even went so far as to suggest the rays might be composed of luminous force that interacts and interprets the body it touches. Sounds not unlike fingers to me. Little gushing fingers of light.

I am reminded of the “evil eye”, and have to wonder what it was like to be or to deal with assholes in 300 BC Greece with these thoughts in mind.
